Terra (BIO)

Over the past few years, Excellent Cork has carried out an exhaustive search for raw materials from renewable sources, the so-called BIO-materials, and we have completed all the necessary mechanical tests to offer our clients high quality seals, similar to what they have been using until now. Therefore, Excellent Cork has standardised the materials in compliance with current legislation on food safety, and we are launching a series of BIO, corks, thereby expanding our range of corks to satisfy our clients’ demand for this range of products.

ExcellentCork’s ?rm commitment to promoting a sustainable consumption and production that are more environmentally friendly has led us to develop the TERRA line of stoppers, manufactured with BIO-materials obtained from sugarcane. This, together with the use of 100% recyclable materials, is helping us to advance towards our goal of zero CO2 emissions in the near future.

With regard to the production process, the company is directing its efforts towards actions that minimise the environmental impact of its products.   Among these actions, we would like to highlight the following:

  • The unit in which Excellent Cork is located has a photovoltaic plant on its roof that allows us to generate electricity for our productive process, thus promoting energy self-consumption and encouraging the use of renewable energies, in order to comply with our energy saving and ef?ciency plan.
  • The drying system used to print the corks has been changed from a conventional UV light lamp to LED lamps, reducing energy consumption by 90%.
  • We have replaced our general lighting system with LED lamps.
  • We are donating the cardboard waste that we produce to a local association of people with differently abilities, which helps them to generate resources with which they can run employment workshops that promote the employability of its users.
  • We have registered our carbon footprint with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with the objective of planning different actions and investments to ensure that our annual balance of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere is 0 or even negative.
